Mural: Davis Family Backyard
chic luxury • bold • Mediterranean • traditional tiles
Imagine you’ve just spent the last few months transforming a part of your house. You invested in a new design, furniture, flooring, and more. Construction has finally stopped, the dust is clearing, and as everything settles, you feel like it’s so close, but something is still missing. That was the reality for the Davis family, who found the final thing to bring their new backyard oasis to its full potential was through a backdrop mural.
As a family and friend hangout space, this mural needs to evoke fun times and bold vibes. It should make rainy days more inspirational and less gloomy. And on sunny days, I wanted them to feel like they were about to step into an ideal luxury vacation! I tried to embrace exploration and give this family coastal views every day at home (without embracing credit card debt from booking flights and nights abroad)!
Setting Strategy
The goal was to create a mural that melded chic Hamptons luxury with traditional Mediterranean visuals. I wanted to use pattern in a supportive way in the background rather than create something overwhelmingly present. That way, I could really emphasize the scene that gets created rather than it fight and clash. As this family is also growing, I wanted to make sure to use color and shape to inspire curiosity! We looked to traditional blue tile work and coastal scenes for inspiration.
Concepts
Concept One: This mural features a small tile pattern with window view to a coastal town. It’s minimal, but effective.
Concept Two: This mural features a botanical scene that leads into the view of a coastal town. I would keep the foliage in blues and pull color through the town.
Concept Three: This mural features larger, much lighter blue tiles, still featuring a window view of a coastal Mediterranean town.
I always provide digital mocks, so you have a better sense
of what the mural will actually feel like in your space

This mural was a true test of the elements - from storms to heat waves, this was definitely the most logistic-filled project I’ve ever done. But it was worth every drop of sweat, every anxious thought about rain, and what felt like maybe too much liquid IV, lol. I’m so proud of this one and just forever grateful for the Davis family for trusting me to complete their backyard transformation!
